Di Roccia di Sole - Climbing in Sicily

Di Roccia di Sole is the definitive guidebook covering the rock climbing and sport climbing areas on the island of Sicily. For the 1st time there are chapters dedicated to bouldering and Deep Water Soloing (DWS) opportunities on Sicily. The climbing to be found on Sicily is very diverse with everything from single pitch sport routes on the coast and inland, through to multi-pitch routes up to 400m long in the mountains. These multi-pitch routes are equipped in very different styles, from fully bolted routes, to routes where only the belays and crux moves are bolted. The guidebook covers 98 different climbing areas on Sicily including San Vito Lo Capo near Trapani, the crags around Palermo, crags in the northeast of the island, and the crags between Siracusa and Ragusa in the southeast of Sicily. In total there are many 1,000s of routes across a wide range of grades. All the routes are shown on either clear topo diagrams or colour photo topos. For the multi-pitch routes there is a detailed description of each pitch, an explanation of what gear is required for the route, plus descent information. At the start of each crag there is a description of the style of climbing to be found, a location map, access information, plus a QR code for the parking areas to download onto your smart phone or tablet. Symbols then indicate exposure to the sun, how well it is bolted, how good the parking is, how popular it is, the general beauty of the crag, and the total number of routes at each grade. This 4th edition of the guidebook was published in October 2015 by Versante Sud, and is in English text throughout.
