Ecuador & Galapagos
Ordinær pris 199,00 krEcuador at 1:650,000 on an indexed, waterproof and tear-resistant road map with topographic and tourist information, published by Reise Know-How as part of their highly acclaimed World Mapping Project. The map is double-sided, with a generous overlap between the sides, to provide the best balance between a good scale and a convenient size sheet. The Galapagos Islands are included as an inset at 1:1,000,000.
The country’s topography is presented by altitude colouring with contours, spot heights, mountain passes and names of mountain ranges – active volcanoes are highlighted. The map also shows mangroves, swamps, and seasonal rivers and lakes. Internal administrative boundaries are shown with names of the provinces.
Road network indicates unsurfaced local roads and 4WD tracks, gives driving distances on main roads, plus locations of petrol station and border crossings. Railway lines are included and local airfields are marked.
Symbols highlight various places of interest, including national parks and protected areas, UNESCO world heritage sites, churches and archaeological sites, campsites, beaches and diving or surfing locations, etc. Oil well and pipelines are also marked. The map has a latitude and longitude grid at intervals of 30’ and an extensive index of localities. Map legend includes English.

Galapagos Crusoes
Ordinær pris 179,00 krA new, updated version of the celebrated 1968 title, Galapagos: Islands of Birds, by the renowned late ornithologist Bryan Nelson, with additional, previously unpublished reminiscences and lively and irreverent memories from his wife June. This timely reissue breathes new life into a classic work of natural history that will appeal to bird-lovers and Galapagos-lovers alike. It is as memorable for its groundbreaking descriptions of Galapagos wildlife as for June's naked appearance in the News of the World accompanied by a quote from the Duke of Edinburgh.
In 1964 the late Bryan Nelson, a zoologist, and his wife June spent a year living on two uninhabited, waterless Galapagos islands studying the three species of booby ('we couldn't resist also studying the great frigatebird and waved albatross, too' says June). Bryan's book, Galapagos: Islands of Birds was published in 1968 and, although by necessity a scientific study, his light touch and the extraordinary hardships and delights of living in total isolation with no means of rescue should things go wrong, make it an exceptionally good read. Now, nearly 60 years later, June Nelson has extracted the story of that extraordinary year and complemented it with her own recollections.
The couple's research and findings remain relevant and interesting, so plenty of wildlife descriptions are retained, but it is the mischievous mocking birds and friendly sea lions which will captivate the reader as much as the famous blue-footed boobies and waved albatrosses. At the end of their stay on Hood, when their clothes were literally in tatters and they went barefoot, they had news of the imminent visit of The Duke of Edinburgh and the Royal Yacht Britannia. June's description of this visit and their lunch on board with Prince Philip, make a surreal ending to a year of deteriorating food: 'Now our flour had around 50 maggots or beetles per pound...

Galapagos Wildlife
Ordinær pris 299,00 krThis new, thoroughly updated and lavishly illustrated edition of Bradt's Galapagos Wildlife is packed with information and magnificent pictures to aid in identifying key species, all in an easy-to-carry format that covers everything from the wildlife that you're likely to encounter to underwater life and a succinct history of the islands, their habitats and volcanic origins. The most detailed descriptions and maps in print of the main visitor sites are included, so you can see where a boat will land and what can be seen there. An overview of conservation efforts is also included and so too are unique island trail plans for those looking to explore.
Written and illustrated by two expert-naturalist guides, this new edition covers all the latest information, from the discovery of an 'extinct' tortoise species not seen for over 100 years on Fernandina island and the discovery of new rare 'pink iguanas' on Isabela island's Wolf volcano, to the change in taxonomy of Darwin's finches and the new species status of the almost-extinct Vermillion flycatcher. Snorkelling with sea lions, penguins and sharks at Devil's Crown, Floreana is included, as is kayaking in pristine locations such as Espanola's Gardiner Bay. Travelling to the Galapagos is a rite of passage for serious wildlife enthusiasts.

Fra ITM: South America as a continent is fascinating. For many years, ITMB has provided this map, either in its original version of two single sided map or a double sided map, such as this. The Andes
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe Andes mountain chain is the southern extension of the Sierra Nevada chain through Mexico and Central America, which is, in turn the southern extension of the Rocky Mountain chain from Alaska to the Mexican border. The Andes is a magnificent series of high mountains that enters Colombia and spreads southwards through Ecuador and Peru all the way to southern Patagonia.
The map is double-sided, with the Northern Andes on one side and the other side divided into two side-by-side maps portraying the Central Andes and the Southern Andes. Thus, the map coverage focuses on the Andes themselves, rather than on all of South America. All of Colombia and Peru are shown, most of Bolivia, all of Chile, and the Patagonian portion of Argentina except for the southern portion of Tierra del Fuego. The importance of this map is that it focuses on the highland areas of the continent, where much of the population lives. Bogota, Medellin, Quito, Lima, Arequipa, La Paz, Santiago, Talca, and Punta Arenas are all located along the spine of the Andes. So are the Torres del Paine peaks, the Montt Glacier, and numerous volcanoes, touristic sites, and twisting mountain roads.
