Canada: Toronto & Southern Ontario
Ordinær pris 199,00 krToronto is the largest city in Canada and the 5th most populous in all of North America. Strategically located on the north shore of Lake Ontario, it is halfway between Chicago and Montreal and within easy access to NYC and points south. Its hinterland consists of 100,000,000 people, so this is a city worthy of note! Historically, it dates from 1793, but its antecedents go back many more centuries. The name means "Meeting Place" in indigenous annals, and it grew rapidly as a centre of commerce and industry over the successive decades to dominate Canada. It is also the capital of the Province of Ontario and the centrepoint for most banks and insurance companies operating in Canada. Touristically, it has the largest airport in the country and is the access point for most flights from the USA and Europe, so tends to be where most visitors arrive.
The map shows the core of a vast urban expanse that contains almost all of the touristic sites in the city, from the lovely recreational outer harbour islands to tony Yorkville and High Park, in the west. All tram lines are shown (Toronto has the largest fixed rail tram network in the world), as well as the extensive subway system (recently expanded), and an inset map showing all of Metro Toronto. Side 2 concentrates on part of southern Ontario, from Detroit to Kingston and north to Barrie. This would assist visitors driving to Niagara Falls, which is still the Number 1 attraction of North America.

Canada: Northwest Territories & Nunavut
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe northernmost portion of Canada is enormous in area but very lightly populated. The westernmost portion is Yukon, which is on a different map. The middle portion is the Northwest Territories, with its capital at Yellowknife. This vast territory covers from the 60th parallel to the Arctic Ocean but is mostly inaccessible except by air. A new gravel road has been extended from Inuvik to a small town on the Arctic Ocean known as Tuk (because its full name of Tuktoyaktuk is a bit of a mouthful). One can only reach this road via the Yukon and the Dempster Highway. The normal road access to the main part of NWT is from Alberta, with a paved highway to Yellowknife. An inset of the city is included.
The second side of the map presents Nunavut, Canadas newest political entity, which is celebrating its 25th year of existence this year. Nunavut has no roads except in the few small towns that exist. Its capital is Iqaluit (which means Place of Fish), at the head of Frobisher Bay on Baffin Island. This territory covers an expanse much larger than all of Europe, but has only about 30,000 people. Needless to say, the territory struggles to perform essential services. We have added a red-dashed line to show the route of the Northwest Passage, a largely ice-filled channel that is quickly becoming navigable due to global warming. This is a fascinating, off the beaten path type of place, so add it to your bucket list!

Canada: East Coast
Ordinær pris 199,00 krCanada is a vast country in area; inconceivably enormous in European terms. It is best mapped as a series of regional maps and this is the first of two maps that we hope will portray the Atlantic coastline of all of North America. Side 1 concentrates on Newfoundland and Labrador, with a tiny bit of Nunuvut at the top end of the Ungava Peninsula. An inset map of St. John’s, capital of Nfld/Lab is included, as is the French Overseas Territory of St. Pierre et Miquelon. The new paved highway across Labrador is the highlight of this side of the map!
The second side of the map focusses on Nova Scotia/Cape Breton and parts of Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick, with a detailed inset of central Halifax. The former French fortress of Louisbourg is a must-see for anyone visiting Cape Breton, as are the many Loyalist towns created along the coast of Nova Scotia to house refugees fleeing turmoil in the American colonies during the Revolutionary War. A separate map concentrating on the Atlantic coastline of the USA is being prepared.

Maps and Dreams
Ordinær pris 209,00 kr Salgspris 129,00 kr Spar 38%The Canadian subarctic is a world of forest, prairie, and muskeg; of rainbow trout, moose, and caribou; of Indian hunters and trappers. It is also a world of boomtowns and bars, oil rigs and seismic soundings; of white energy speculators, ranchers, and sports hunters. Brody came to this dual world with the job of "mapping" the lands of northwest British Columbia as well as the way of life of a small group of Beaver Indians with a viable hunting economy living in the path of a projected oil pipeline. The result is Maps and Dreams, Brody's account of his extraordinary eighteen-month journey through the world of a people who have no intention of vanishing into the past.
In this beautifully written book, readers go on a moose hunt; trap beaver; mourn at a funeral; drink in white bars; visit camps, cabins, and traplines by pickup truck, on horseback, and on foot. Brody's powerful commentary also retraces the history of the ever-expanding white frontier from the first eighteenth-century explorer to the wildest corporate energy dreams of the present day. In the process, readers see how Indian dreams and white dreams, Indians maps and white maps, collide.

Canada: West Coast Trail & Carmanah Valley
Ordinær pris 169,00 krITM har kart over hele verden og de spesialiserer seg på land litt utenfor allfarvei. Beliggenheten til landets nasjonalparker, historiske monumenter, de viktigste veiene o.L. Finner du inkludert i kartene. Samtlige landkart har ofte et bykart over hovedstaden.
Fra ITM: This map is a specialized hiking map of one of the toughest trails in North America. It takes a week to hoof it from Bamfield to Port Renfrew along the western coastline of British Columbia’s West Coast Trail. Hiking the trail is so popular that it is necessary to reserve a start time well in advance of arriving! The trail is contained within a national park, so camping sites are controlled and must be adhered to.
The map has a secondary purpose; it is a recreational map at a detailed scale for anyone wanting to explore the old-growth forests of this part of Vancouver Island. This includes the Broken Islands group, which is also part of the national park, and the Carmanah Valley Provincial Park, home of some of the tallest and oldest trees in the world. By the nature of a rectangular sheet of paper, the map also includes a wealth of logging roads, shorter hikes, whitewater kayaking areas, wilderness campsites, and the canoeing routes of Nitinat Lake. This is truly an amazing adventure map. The artwork is that of the Canada Map Office, with recreational information added by ITMB.

Canada: Yukon & British Columbia North
Ordinær pris 199,00 krStarting with Yukon (NB: not “the” Yukon, please), this portion of NWT was carved out into its own territory a century ago, as a result of the gold rush to the Klondike. It is the same map we’ve done since 1989, updated whenever necessary and includes inset maps of Whitehorse (the capital), Dawson City, and Watson Lake. It is still a territory, not a full province, although essentially self-administering.
The NWT side of the sheet shows the brand new all-season gravel road to Tuktoyaktuk on the Arctic Ocean, opening up this part of Canada for land travel for the first time. An inset map of Yellowknife (the capital) is included.

Fra ITM: British Columbia's famous Vancouver Island is one of the great touristic attractions of North America. It hosts the provincial capital at Victoria, Butchart Gardens, the logging museum at Duncan, the painted walls at Chemanus, Long Beach at Tofino, and the Totem poles of Alert Bay. It is linked to the USA by ferries from Seattle and Port Angeles, and by ferries from Vancouver and Powell River, as well as by float planes and airports. About 400,000 people live on the island, but the population expands to over a million during the busy summer season. The island offers something for everyone. All the urban areas are small enough to be easily walkable, hikers revel in the challenges of the West Coast Trail (for which you need a separate map), canoeists can take a week exploring the Broken Islands, and everyone can walk the twelve-mile Long Beach. This is a camper's heaven, with hundreds of wilderness campsites and thousands of kilometers of back road logging routes to explore, mountains to climb, and fiords to boat. No wonder this is such a popular travel destination! Inset maps of Victoria and Tofino are included.
