Habitats
Ordinær pris 499,00 krExplore the world's natural habitats and the plants and animals that live there. From the depths of the ocean to soaring mountain peaks - via coral reefs, deserts, rainforests, and even cityscapes - discover how unexpected wildlife partnerships make up the habitats plants and animals call home. Each habitat section starts with a fascinating illustration to explain how it works, exploring the combination of conditions, plants, and animals that make it up.
It then delves deeper, telling stories about how the inhabitants interact and find their place in each habitat. Survival strategies can be extreme, including frogs that can survive frozen through winter to emerge unharmed in spring. Vying for resources, plants and animals can work together in intimate partnerships, engage in direct competition - fighting tooth and nail over resources - or adapt in particular ways to find their own niche that only they can exploit.
These intricately balanced systems create an incredible and fascinating variety of life on our planet. So what are you waiting for?

Animal Behaviour
Ordinær pris 449,00 krA thrilling face-to-face encounter with animals in their own environment – their elaborate displays, intimate lives, and extraordinary behaviour. Packed with vivid wildlife photography and action sequences, every aspect of animal life and behaviour is explored and explained – from courtship rituals and birth to hunting and death. An initial overview of animal anatomy and physiology reveals the science and biomechanics that underpin animal behaviour, while later chapters thematically break down the intricacies of animal feeding, development, communication, intelligence, learning, and other behavioural characteristics.

Feature panels throughout the book explore the biology behind these traits, introduce case studies from the field, and highlight critical conservation issues facing these animals. Animal Behaviour has been created in collaboration with internationally renowned zoologist and TV presenter Charlotte Uhlenbroek and a team of wildlife experts to ensure up-to-date and accurate information.

Galapagos Crusoes
Ordinær pris 179,00 krA new, updated version of the celebrated 1968 title, Galapagos: Islands of Birds, by the renowned late ornithologist Bryan Nelson, with additional, previously unpublished reminiscences and lively and irreverent memories from his wife June. This timely reissue breathes new life into a classic work of natural history that will appeal to bird-lovers and Galapagos-lovers alike. It is as memorable for its groundbreaking descriptions of Galapagos wildlife as for June's naked appearance in the News of the World accompanied by a quote from the Duke of Edinburgh.
In 1964 the late Bryan Nelson, a zoologist, and his wife June spent a year living on two uninhabited, waterless Galapagos islands studying the three species of booby ('we couldn't resist also studying the great frigatebird and waved albatross, too' says June). Bryan's book, Galapagos: Islands of Birds was published in 1968 and, although by necessity a scientific study, his light touch and the extraordinary hardships and delights of living in total isolation with no means of rescue should things go wrong, make it an exceptionally good read. Now, nearly 60 years later, June Nelson has extracted the story of that extraordinary year and complemented it with her own recollections.
The couple's research and findings remain relevant and interesting, so plenty of wildlife descriptions are retained, but it is the mischievous mocking birds and friendly sea lions which will captivate the reader as much as the famous blue-footed boobies and waved albatrosses. At the end of their stay on Hood, when their clothes were literally in tatters and they went barefoot, they had news of the imminent visit of The Duke of Edinburgh and the Royal Yacht Britannia. June's description of this visit and their lunch on board with Prince Philip, make a surreal ending to a year of deteriorating food: 'Now our flour had around 50 maggots or beetles per pound...

Uganda Animal Kingdom
Ordinær pris 259,00 krUganda Animal Kingdom. African might. There are a number of reasons why people are choosing to take Tour and holidays in Uganda out of all the 54 countries on the African continent. After many years of bad publicity from wars and disease, things turned around for Uganda, especially in 2006, when Kony and his Lord's Resistance Army were run out of the country. Some of the things that have caused this surge in popularity and made Uganda make it to the list of the top 20 travel destinations include; Primates such as Gorillas: It came to the attention of both Uganda and the rest of the world that Uganda is primate country. From monkeys, to baboons to chimpanzees and to the rare and sought after golden monkeys and mountain gorillas.
There is no better country to visit if you are looking to see primates of different kinds. In the past five years gorilla trekking in Uganda has become one of the most sought after Africa safari adventures. The pearl of Africa is home to more than half of the world's population of mountain gorillas, and some of these have been habituated so visitors can get to see them in their natural habitat. Chimpanzees too are an attraction in Uganda, they are found in various places in the western part of Uganda. The golden monkeys, also quite a rare species are found in Mgahinga national park on the foothills of the Virunga Mountains. It is because of the abundance of primates that Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga national park, and other parks in the western part of the country have a lot of tourist traffic.
