Africa
Ordinær pris 199,00 krAfrica is a huge continent. No one apart from us has successfully prepared a digital data base for the entire continent and this edition includes numerous updates to road information and shifting political realities. We have updated roads whenever reliable data indicates improvements, such as connections between the southern tip of Morocco and the road leading to Nouakchott, in Mauritania. Politically, we all know of things that do not affect maps - the closed border between Algeria and Morocco, the coup in Guinea, the continued instability of Libya, the generally better degree of stability in Somalia, the on-going troubles in South Sudan - but generally, the continent of 54 nation states and a few colonial enclaves has survived two years of destabilizing Covid ravages rather well. Tourism is gradually recovering, and map sales improving.
This is a very important map in that it brings all of the countries and islands relative to the African continent into perspective. We are pleased to bring to your attention an updated version of a part of the world that is crucially important.
Africa: East Coast & Madagascar
Ordinær pris 199,00 krAs far as I know, there has never been a map covering the entire coastline of the Indian Ocean portion of Africa, from Djibouti all the way south to Port Elizabeth, in South Africa - until now! This double-sided map encompasses a vast region, including all of Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Mozambique, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Swaziland (which now prefers to be called Eswatini), as well as an inset map of Madagascar. Large portions of several other countries are included, such as South Africa and southern Ethiopia.
This would be an excellent map for anyone travelling overland from Nairobi to the Cape. All road and rail routes are shown, as well as major touristic attractions, national parks and game preserves. A Top Attractions list is included, noting Ngorogoro, Kruger, Victoria Falls, and lesser-known attractions such as the Tuli Block and Sibebe Rock.
Africa: Seychelles & Indian Ocean
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThis is actually two brand new maps in one. This is a brilliant new map of the Seychelles archipelago and a first-ever map of the entire Indian Ocean. The islands of the Seychelles are too widely-spaced to portray except by as a series of ten insets. The main island is Mahe, which also houses the capital of Victoria (inset provided) and numerous resorts. Many of the islands have French names, reflecting the colonial to-and-fro that typified relations between Britain and France. Praslin, Curiuse, Falicite, La Digue, and Desroches are not names that bring immediate recognition, but they are the names of islands belonging to the Seychelles.
The map shows dozens of resorts, as well as restaurants, touristic sites, historic sites, ferry docks, parks, and shopping areas. The reverse side covers the Indian Ocean as a marine map, with underwater ridges portrayed and countries portrayed politically in differing colours. The ocean nations of Comoros, Reunion, BIOT, Maldives, and Andaman/Nicobar Islands are likely only to be mapped in this context. It is an interesting map.
Africa: West Africa & Burkina Faso

Fra ITM: Our updated and re-worked Burkina Faso map is back in print. Side 1 concentrates on the country itself, with detailed inset maps of Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso and a listing of the top nine must-see attractions of this inland country. Historically, the country's origins can be traced back to the 1500s, when a flourishing empire existed in this part of Africa. W-Arly-Pendjari is home to West Africa's largest herd of elephants, and Tiebele is home to fascinating local architecture. The other side of the sheet shows all of West Africa, from Mauritania to Cameroon. It shows sub-Saharan Africa to excellent advantage and would be a very good map for anyone exploring the overall region.

Africa: Zambia & Eastern
Ordinær pris 179,00 krZambia, a nice country in central/southern Africa graces one side of the sheet, along with a very large inset map of Lusaka and two others of Livingstone and Victoria Falls (which is actually in Zimbabwe). The other side of the sheet contains a very useful regional map of eastern Africa from Ethiopia/Eritrea south to Eswatini/Swaziland. Madagascar is also included, as well as the Comoro Islands. While both sides are useful, it is the Zambian side that takes precedence. All the roads and towns are shown, as well as parks, safari lodges, and points of interest. It is possible, though not advisable, to travel to Zimbabwe via either Kariba or Vic Falls, and there is a good crossing into Botswana at Sesheke. Entry to and from Tanzania and Malawi is easy.

The map shows the country’s road and rail networks, including numerous seasonal tracks. Intermediate distances are marked on main routes and locations of petrol stations are indicated. National parks are prominently marked and symbols highlight various places of interest, including selected hotels and campsites.
The map has latitude and longitude grid at intervals of 1º and an index of localities. Also included is a large, clear street plan of central Luanda.

Fra ITM: Burkina Faso and Niger on a double-sided, indexed map from ITMB, presenting each country separately at 1:1,000,000 1:1,950,000 respectively and accompanied by street plans of Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso and Niamey. Altitude colouring shows the topography (with bands in feet in Burkina Faso and in metres in Niger). In Burkina Faso the map indicates areas of periodic inundation, whilst in Niger numerous water wells, salt pans, sand dunes and lava fields are also marked. In both countries parks and nature reserves are highlighted.
Road network indicates seasonal roads and shows locations of fuel supplies and border crossings, plus distances on main routes. Airports and aerodromes for small craft are marked; towns are annotated with symbols indicating what facilities can be found there. Each map has latitude and longitude lines (at 1° in Burkina Faso and 2° in Niger), plus a separate index.
Street plans, annotated with names of hotels, various tourist facilities and main buildings cover Ouagadougou (with an enlargement for the town cente), Bobo-Dioulasso and Niamey.

From ITMB: Africa is blessed with many diverse countries. Cameroun and Gabon are two of the stable, tourist-friendly countries, with easy access from Europe by air. This map has two covers, so can be displayed cover-outwards to focus on each country. Cameroun emerged out of the German colony of Kameroun after WW1 and was jointly administered by Britain and France until the 1960s. An inset of Yaounde;, the capital, is included, as is an inset of Douala, the country's major port city. The second side concentrates on Gabon, a former French colony that shares a border with Cameroun. This side includes two inset map; one of Libreville, the country's capital, with the other detailing Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea. Mainland Equatorial Guinea is also included on the side of the map, at the same scale as Gabon. Thus, one gets three countries for the price of one! This is the only map of Equatorial Guinea that I am aware of being in print.

Egypt & Cairo
Ordinær pris 199,00 kr2nd Edition Following the so-called Arab spring of a few years ago, northern Africa experienced much turbulence. Egypt experienced the overthrow of the government, the installation of a radical religious-oriented replacement, and the installation of a radical religious-oriented replacement, and the installation of military governance. Tourism plummeted. Most map publishers discontinued their maps of the country. Five years later, Egypt has stabilized and tourism is growing. We feel that the time is right to re-introduce our ITMB map of Egypt.
This version focuses on the portions of the country that have been re-opened for tourism, which means from the Mediterranean coastline south to the Aswan Dam. The portion further south remains closed for the moment, as is the border crossing with Sudan. We have also unrest, as the border areas with Libya remain very unstable. However, we have provided a large inset map of Egypt, covering everything, in the area of desert. We have also added a listing of Egypt's Top tombs.
The other side of the sheet is a detailed map of Cairo, with an inset of the Giza Pyramid complex just to the west of Cairo, and another inset of the Cairo region showing all the known tombs west of the Nile River south to Helwan. The back cover is a schematic map of the rapid transit system of Cairo. There is a third inset, showing Alexandra and other associated urban areas along the coast. The maps is printed on stone paper, which is waterproof, durable, and long-lasting. It is also biodegradable.
Egypt: Cairo & Nile Delta
Ordinær pris 199,00 krCairo is one of the most vibrant and exciting cities in the world (as is Egypt as a country, which we map separately). Side 1 focuses on the city itself, with insets of Alexandria, the pyramids of Gizi, and the region immediately surrounding Cairo. The city has also expanded its rapid transit Metro system, which is shown on the back cover. An extension to the airport should open next year. The second side of the map sheet shows the delta of the Nile River, which is a gigantic flood plain, and follows the course of the river south past Cairo all the way past Luxor. Much of the Red Sea is included, as is most of the Sinai Peninsula. The famous canal is, of course, shown in detail.
This map is designed for the visitor concentrating on the most popular aspects of a trip to ancient Egypt. The map also has two Top Attraction lists, one for the city and one for the region, to make it easy for users to locate such sites as the Temple of Horus or the must-see new Museum of Egypt.

Fra ITM: Double-sided map with Ethiopia at 1:1,900,000 accompanied by a street plan of Addis Ababa, with on the reverse Eritrea at 1:915,000 with a plan of Asmara. Both road maps are indexed and show the topography by altitude colouring: in Ethiopia with bands in metres and peak heights given in both metres and feet, and in Eritrea with bands in feet and peak heights either in feet and metres or in feet only.

Fra ITM: ITM is pleased to re-introduce their coverage of two countries of africa that are fairly unique. Both were well-established entities when settlers arrived, and both were able to maintain their identities throughout the colonial era, as protectorates. Lesotho is quite mountainous, with a poorly developed road network, so is a travel adventure destination. It occupies side 1, along with an inset of maseru, the capital. Swaziland, which has recently changed its name for local purposes to eswatini, occupies side 2, with an inset of mbabane, its capital. Both countries are easy to access from south africa, and are well worth visiting. We have also added two lists showing the top attractions of both countries. Both are land-locked countries either adjacent to or surrounded by south africa; both are essentially agricultural countries, although lesotho s mountainous terrain offers considerable touristic appeal, particularly the sani pass. Legend includes: Highway, main road, secondary road, street, pathway, railway, park, lake, international airport, gas station, church, hotel, museum, library, restaurant, shopping, police station, bank, school, stadium, bus terminal, golfing, etc. 2nd edition 2019. Madagascar
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe large, somewhat isolated, island of Madagascar off the east coast of Africa has unique wildlife that makes this country a naturalist's paradise. Road detail includes some tracks, and locations with petrol supplies are marked.
The legend includes railways, ports, sea ferries, airports and airfields. Wetland areas, reserves and national parks are indicated, and a range of symbols depict various features e.g. historic sites, places of interest, antiquities, waterfalls, campsites, lodgings, beaches, hospitals and post offices. The islands of the Comoros and Mayotte are also included which also show main roads, airports and hotels. The map is single sided and printed on paper, topography is shown using altitude shading and some spot heights.

Malawi & Mozambique
Ordinær pris 199,00 krTravel to Africa is picking up rapidly, resulting in this updated rendition of two of the continent's most popular travel destinations. Side 1 covers Malawi, the former Nyasaland of colonial times, with its capital of Lilongwe included as an inset map. An inset of Blantyre is also provided as well as photographic text showing the main attractions of the country. Adjacent portions of Zambia, Mozambique, and Tanzania are also included. Side 2 is dedicated to Mozambique, with an inset of its capital, Maputo. Although less travelled, Mozambique offers wildlife preserves bordering on Kruger, the wonderful Gorongoza Reserve, and the coastal Bazaruto Archipelago. It also has Mocambique fortress in the far north, the historic transfer point for goods from India and Europe.

Fra ITM: In this edition, we have combined Mauritania with Mali. Although both are interesting countries, the two fit naturally together as a unit, albeit at slightly differing scales. Technically, this should be a 1st edition map, as it is the first time we have combined these two desert countries on to one sheet, but I’ll let Robert at the Library of Congress worry about the niceties of bibliographic accuracy as soon as Trump allows him to do the work he loves for a salary. Mauritania was one of the most unusual countries I visited as a young traveller. Of course, I had an advantage, in that I was too young to know that what I was doing was supposed to be impossible. I entered from what was then the Spanish Sahara via a piste (a sandy track with multiple pathways, only some of which avoid soft sand), travelling with a young Bedouin man. In Zouerate, a mining camp, I had to tie my VW campervan onto a railway flatbed car, and endure hundreds of kilometres of a sand dune wasteland before reaching Choum, and a siding where I could off-load the vehicle. The track south to Nouakchott was covered with sand and treacherous. Nowadays, there is a paved road to the southern border of Morocco, and a good road all the way along the coast to Rosso, where a ferry can take one across to Senegal. Mali adjoins Mauritania, both being formerly part of French West Africa. The capital, Bamako, is an interesting town with quite a bit of colonial architecture still in place. East of there is Djenne, a ‘forbidden’ city for infidels when I was there (see cover photo), but a fascinating mud-brick city. Further east again is Mopti, a river port where camel caravans off-load tablets of salt mined still far in the Sahara for transport by boat to Dakar. Further east again is Timbuktu (or Tombouctou as it is now spelled), at one time the most exotic isolated destination known to mankind. Further south is the Bandiagara escarpment, a must-see living area for locals who have created a living space from the sheer walls of the cliff. Both countries are fascinating places to visit.

Fra ITM: 3rd Edition Somalia is one of the more itneresting off-the-beaten-path countries. The area around Mogadishu prefers to call itself Somalia, but controls only a portion of the overall country area. Then there is Jubaland, on the Kenyan border, aligned very closely to the former Italian colony boundaries of the same name. Truuly, an amazing juxtaposition of countries within countries! the reverse side of the sheet presents a vey interesting regional perspective of the area between the northern border of Ethiopia, a small portion of Sudan and a reasonable portion of South Sudan, all of Uganda, most of Kenya, all of Djibouti and a fair portion of Eritrea, as well as the former Aden portion of war-torn Yemen. The strategic island of Socotra is in the upper right corner. This is a fascinating regional map, never before published to my knowledge, of an extremely significant part of the world. Think of the following: Socotra guards and controls access to the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, leading to the Suez Canal. What an interesting part of the world! How can anyone not be captivated by such wonderfully exotic names as Hargeysa, Boosaaso, or Kismayyo? Somalia and the region of the Horn remain crucially important to world peace, so this map is important.

South Africa: Lesotho & Swaziland (Eswatini)
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe most southerly portion of the African continent is also one of the most scenic parts of that vast continent. South Africa was settled by Europeans in the 1500s, displacing the indigenous population. It developed into an industrial, urbanized society by WW2, but has had a troubled modern history. It is touristically attractive, with two main ports of entry – Johannesburg and Cape Town. It is easy to rent a car and drive around the country (NB: they drive on the wrong side of the road!) or enjoy a luxurious train trip between the two main cities.
The Garden Route, along the south shore, passes through vintage vineyards and enables one to explore off-the-beaten-path towns like Knysna, or explore the Transkei, or visit land-locked Lesotho. The game parks of South Africa are rightly famous. Kruger is the most famous, but my favourite is Addo, an elephant sanctuary north of Port Elizabeth. Farther north is Swaziland, which has recently changed its name to Eswatini, and further west are Botswana and Namibia, portions of which are included on the map. Finally, there is the arid Northern Cape and the Great Karoo to discover.
Includes City Centre Maps of Cape Town; Johannesburg & Pretoria
Sudan & South Sudan
Ordinær pris 199,00 krConsidering that Sudan is locked into an even more brutal civil war than the one besetting Israel-Hamas, this might seem like an odd time to bring out our first-ever map of Sudan and South Sudan, but it may be an important area of the world to have an updated map of, to focus on a tragedy unfolding mostly unnoticed by the world at large. More than 10,000 locals have been slaughtered since a rebel group made an abortive grasp to overthrow the current government a couple of months ago, mostly in the Darfur region.
ITMB publishes maps to encourage touristic travel, but our maps also bear witness to atrocities and natural disasters and are widely used by selected governments and humanitarian aid groups thanks to the accuracy of our artwork. Side 1 concentrates on Sudan from its disputed (and closed) border with Egypt south to a little below Khartoum, the capital. An inset map of central Khartoum is also included.
Side 2 focusses on South Sudan from its borders with CAR, Congo, Uganda, and Kenya north to the still-contested border with Sudan and the southern provinces of that country. The most dominant feature of both Sudans is the Nile River (White Branch) that flows through both countries on its way to the Mediterranean. This is the first time that South Sudan has been so intensely mapped and is a credit to Lan’s team of cartographers to portray a country carved recently out of adversity and coping with intense tribal rivalries.
Tanzania
Ordinær pris 199,00 krAfrica generally has been slower to recover economically from the Covid era, but is just as fascinating as ever. ITMB is finding that many of our maps of countries in Africa are approaching the end of their print runs and will see new editions through the rest of 2024 and into 2025. Tanzania is one of the first to be updated and refreshed. Printed on waterproof stone paper, Side 1 concentrates on the southern half of the country, from Dar es Salaam (the actual capital) south to the borders with Mozambique, Malawi, and Zambia. This is game preserve country, with Selous taking pride of place.
Side 2 concentrates on the northern portions, which are more popular. Game preserves such as Serengeti and Ngorongoro compete with Mount Kilimanjaro and Lake Victoria for attention. The islands of Pemba and Zanzibar are easy to reach from Dar. A large portion of Kenya is shown, as well as significant portions of Burundi and Rwanda. Detailed inset maps of Arusha and Stone Town are also included, as are all seven border crossings into Kenya. Tanzania is a very large country geographically, so visitors really need a map to get around.
Tanzania: Kilimanjaro & Tanzania North
Ordinær pris 199,00 krFra ITM: Tanzania is blessed by having Africa’s tallest mountain. This is a very popular travel destination, being updated for the 7th time. Side 1 concentrates on Kilimanjaro itself as a mountain, showing the climbing routes to Uhuru Peak and Mawenzi Peak. A Top Attractions list is also included. The second side covers all of northern Tanzania and a fair portion of Kenya, showing game parks such as Serengeti and Ngorongoro, and the southern half of Lake Victoria. Inset maps of Arusha, the main jumping-off point for climbing Kilimanjaro, and Stone City, in Zanzibar, a UNESCO World Heritage site, are included. This map covers one of the most touristic areas of Africa.

Fra ITM: The two small countries squeezed between Ghana on the west and Nigeria on the east developed out of the European colonialization of most of Africa Germany, under Kaiser Bill, was determined to create an empire to rival that of Britain, and seized a portion of the coastline close to the British-held area of Ghana and held on to it until WW1 ended Germany’s colonial aspirations. Britain and France jointly governed Togo briefly, but the territory was ceded to France until independence was granted in the 1960s. Neighbouring Benin (formerly the French colony of Dahomey) was all that the French colonial office could obtain of the rich coastal plain until the German defeat in WW1, which gained it Togo and German Cameroun, further to the east. Both countries have their points of interest, but to this day have little to do with each other. There is one border crossing on the coast, and a couple of others much farther inland, but each country operates on a north-south basis, not an east-west one. The map includes inset maps of Lome, the capital of Togo, and Porto Novo, in Benin, which is now the capital. Togo’s best sites are noted in a red inset box, with a separate box for Benin.

Uganda
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe Jewel of Africa, Uganda is a lovely country to visit. Most of the development is in the south, close to Lake Victoria. To me, the most interesting parts are the game parks in the far west and in the far north, but the Mount Elgon area is interesting as well. This updated map also includes a large inset map of Kampala, the capital. The map has been updated to last for the next few years and, by being printed on plastic, is guaranteed to remain durable as well as waterproof.
