Trekking around manaslu tsum valley
Ordinær pris 299,00 krThis is a guide book, for the illustrated overview see its companion book CWA329.
It may not have the aura of Everest or Annapurna, but the majestic mountain of Manaslu (8163m) has a remote charm that calls on all trekkers to discover the undiscovered. Lush forests, terraced hillsides, mysterious canyons, gargantuan summits and Buddhist culture are enticing. For so long beyond the horizon, the Tsum Valley is astonishing and secretive. Hilltop monasteries, traditional villages, colourful people, enigmatic yaks and hundreds of mani walls, chortens and kani gates add to the compulsive blend.
Authors Bob Gibbons and Sian Pritchard-Jones first visited Nepal in 1974 and 1982 respectively. Bob arrived overland from the UK in an old Land Rover, at a time when Boudhanath stupa was surrounded by fields and Freak Street was host to travellers and hippies. Soon after that trip he worked as an overland driver and trek manager for Exodus. Sian trekked around Annapurna en route home from work in New Zealand, meeting Bob in Kashmir on another trek. Between 1983 and 1998 they led over forty trekking groups each in Nepal, making at least fifteen ascents of the famous Poon Hill. They continue to visit Nepal regularly, writing or editing books about the Himalayan region, trekking and occasionally driving overland.

The region is bisected by the great River Indus and neighbours Tibet and Kashmir. This quiet corner of the Himalaya has developed a strong trekking culture over recent years for adventurous trekkers. Trekking in this remote, high-altitude region is extremely challenging, as paths are not signed and there are only a limited number of villages.

Trekking in Tajikistan
Ordinær pris 399,00 krThis guide describes twenty high-altitude treks of 2-9 days in the mountains of Tajikistan, covering the Fann Mountains, Pamirs and northern ranges, plus five day hikes near the capital, Dushanbe, and a 10-day trek in the Afghan Wakhan Corridor. As well as detailed route description and 1:100,000 mapping for each trek, there is a wealth of practical advice on transport and visas, trekking support, equipment, cultural awareness, safety and security, as well as background notes on history, flora and fauna and a Tajik-Russian-Pamiri-English glossary. The guide can be used either to plan an independent trek or to select, prepare for and enhance an organised expedition.
Known as 'the Roof of the World', Tajikistan is one of the most mountainous countries on Earth, with 93% of its landmass considered mountainous territory. This is where the mighty Himalaya meet the Tian Shan, Karakoram and Hindu Kush, and a centuries-old network of trails criss-crosses the remote terrain, linking isolated villages and shepherds' camps. Although infrastructure is fragile and tourism in its infancy, this Central Asian nation presents some outstanding opportunities for the adventurous trekker.
The hand-picked routes showcase Tajikistan's breathtaking landscapes of lofty snow-capped peaks, turquoise lakes and sweeping high-altitude plateaus. Trekking here is also a rich cultural experience: in addition to wild camping, many of the treks include the opportunity to experience the fascinating local culture and warm hospitality in a traditional homestay, meeting those who call this remote wilderness home. This guide will be your companion to discovering Tajikistan, a country with so much to offer and one of Central Asia's best kept secrets.

Vietnam
Ordinær pris 309,00 krBrand new from Bradt is Vietnam, a travel guidebook celebrating this fascinating southeast Asian country, which combines 2,000 miles of coastline - complete with idyllic islands, golden beaches and fishing villages - with tropical rainforests, vibrant cities, stunning inland waterways, thousand-year-old temples, terraced paddy fields, herb-infused street food and a richly varied history. Little wonder that the country is increasingly on the wish list of discerning, independent travellers. Here you can cruise among the karst islands of Ha Long Bay, explore the forested mountains of the Central Highlands, go underground into the caves of Phong Nha or visit the tribal villages of Kon Tum.
Alternatively, why not experience the French-style boulevards of Hanoi, the cobblestone streets of Hoi An or neighbourhood floating markets? Written by a long-term resident, Bradt's Vietnam not only covers the key tourist sites but casts a wider net to encompass lesser-explored alternatives and get under the skin of the country. Covering all three regions in Vietnam - north, central and south - this guidebook has responsible travel at its heart. Within the broad range of options suggested for sleeping and eating, what to do and where to go, particular attention is paid towards sustainability - identifying environmentally sensitive accommodation options, experiences that contribute to the local economy, and retail outlets that support traditions and certain communities.
