Kart

The Cuzco/Inca Trail/Manchu Picchu region of Peru is extremely popular. Our map shows the City of Cuzco, the Inca Trail (on a series of sectional map insets), an inset of the interesting town of Aguas Calientes (which is the jumping off place for all visits to Manchu Picchu), and a separate inset map of the fabulously interesting Incan city in he middle of nowhere. This is yet another of those must see before you die places. We went by train from Cuzco to Aguas, which was an adventure in itself, sat in the back of a lorry for the climb up to Manchu, and spent a wonderful day exploring the World Heritage site. One can do the trek along the Inca Trail as well, but that's the only alternative. No road or airport.

Side 2 covers the southern half of Peru, essentially from Lima to the Chilean border and inland as far as Lake Titicaca (another wonderful place to see). Peru existed long before the Spanish arrived, and the country id filled with amazing places to see – Arequipa is full of colonial architecture. Ticlio Station, near Morococha is the most elevated railway station in the world (4,758 meters above sea level).

The Andes mountain chain is the southern extension of the Sierra Nevada chain through Mexico and Central America, which is, in turn the southern extension of the Rocky Mountain chain from Alaska to the Mexican border. The Andes is a magnificent series of high mountains that enters Colombia and spreads southwards through Ecuador and Peru all the way to southern Patagonia. 

The map is double-sided, with the Northern Andes on one side and the other side divided into two side-by-side maps portraying the Central Andes and the Southern Andes. Thus, the map coverage focuses on the Andes themselves, rather than on all of South America. All of Colombia and Peru are shown, most of Bolivia, all of Chile, and the Patagonian portion of Argentina except for the southern portion of Tierra del Fuego. The importance of this map is that it focuses on the highland areas of the continent, where much of the population lives. Bogota, Medellin, Quito, Lima, Arequipa, La Paz, Santiago, Talca, and Punta Arenas are all located along the spine of the Andes. So are the Torres del Paine peaks, the Montt Glacier, and numerous volcanoes, touristic sites, and twisting mountain roads.

Fra ITM: It seems hard to believe that we’re up to the 5th edition of this map! I remember commissioning the original version on a computer, more than twenty years ago. This was the first country map in the world to be computer generated. Now, we’re releasing the latest upgrade of both the country and of Montevideo, its capital. We’re pleased that this important title is back in print, and hope to see many copies move to active travellers in the next couple of years.

Tysk kartserie med flotte kart på slitesterkt plastpapir.

Our maps combine state-of-the-art, GPS-compatible cartography (including hypsometric tints and contour lines) with a detailed rendering of road networks and touristic information. They offer the best possible scale, level of detail and readability, be it a map of a small island or half a continent.

The maps feature a detachable paper sleeve so that the maps can be folded easily and fit in every pocket. Although printed on plastic, a special coating makes sure the maps retain a paper-like feel and can even be written on with a pencil.
