UK: Orkney
Ordinær pris 279,00 krBradt's new guide to Orkney is written by experienced writer and journalist Mark Rowe, author of Bradt's hugely popular guide to the Outer Hebrides and something of a specialist in more remote parts of Scotland. Orkney comprises 70 islands, 19 inhabited, and the focus of this guide is the 13 major inhabited islands. Masses of background information is included, from geography and geology to architecture and archaeology, with significant coverage of wildlife, too, as well as all the practical details you could need: when to visit, suggested itineraries, public holidays and festivals, local culture, plus accommodation and where to eat and drink.
Wildlife lovers, walkers, bird-watchers, beach lovers, archaeology enthusiasts, genealogists, foodies, couples seeking escape and cyclists are all catered for, and this is an ideal guide for those who travel simply with curious minds to discover far-flung places of great cultural, historical and wildlife interest. Orkney is extraordinary. Home to Skara Brae, the most important Stone-Age village in northern Europe, it is also the site of the Neolithic henge of the Ring of Brodgar and Maeshowe chambered tomb, the entrance to which is aligned with the setting sun on the winter solstice.
In fact, Orkney has so many archaeological sites it has its own Neolithic Orkney World Heritage Site. Here, too, you'll find the Old Man of Hoy, a spectacular 140m-high sea stack, Scapa Flow, scene of the dramatic scuttling of the German Fleet in 1919, and Marwick Head nature reserve, the definitive wildlife location, dramatically perched on cliffs and a wonder-world for bird lovers. The archipelago also offers the world's shortest scheduled commercial flight - just 60 seconds, between Westray and Papa Westray - and is the location of the UK's most northerly distilleries.

UK: Outer Hebrides
Ordinær pris 299,00 krThis new, thoroughly updated second edition of Bradt's Outer Hebrides: The Western Isles of Scotland, from Lewis to Barra by experienced writer and journalist Mark Rowe is the only full-size guide to focus solely on the islands of Lewis, Harris, St Kilda, Berneray, North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist, Eriskay, Barra and Vatersay. Masses of background information is included, from geography and geology to art and architecture, with significant coverage of wildlife, too, as well as all the practical details you could need: when to visit, suggested itineraries, public holidays and festivals, local culture, plus accommodation and where to eat and drink. Walkers, birdwatchers, wildlife photographers, beach lovers and genealogists are all catered for, and this is an ideal guide for those who travel simply with curious minds to discover far-flung places of great cultural, historical and wildlife interest.
The Outer Hebrides is an archipelago of 14 inhabited islands and more than 50 others that are free of human footprint. Huge variations in landscape are found across the islands, from Lewisian gneiss, which dates back almost three billion years, to rugged Harris with its magnificent sands running down its western flanks and the windswept, undulating flatness and jagged sea lochs of the Uists. This is a land where Gaelic is increasingly spoken and ancient monuments abound, where stunning seabird colonies and birds of prey can be watched, and where the grassy coastal zones known as the machair are transformed into glorious carpets of wildflowers in late spring and summer.

UK: Shropshire
Ordinær pris 239,00 krPart of Bradt's distinctive, award-winning series of 'Slow' travel guides to UK regions, this new, thoroughly updated third edition of Shropshire (Slow Travel) remains the only standalone guidebook to provide in-depth coverage of England's largest landlocked county. Although often overlooked, Shropshire is remarkable - 'the nearest earthly place to paradise,' according to author PG Wodehouse. The county has been touched by every era of history the British Isles have known: Bronze Age people, Iron Age tribes, Romans, Saxons and Normans all left their marks in hillforts, earthworks, roads, churches, place names and legends, while Shropshire's position at the once-turbulent Anglo-Welsh borders has left a legacy of castles, castle ruins and fortified manor houses, all carrying stories of clashes and feuds.
In the north, flat, fertile plains plus meres and mosses give way to hills, valleys and woodland in the south. In the Shropshire Hills ('quintessential Shropshire'), Church Stretton was popular with Victorians for its Alps-like air and is an ideal walking base for the Stretton Hills and the Long Mynd. Bishop's Castle is home to a 'poetry pharmacy' and the country's oldest working brewery.

UK: Somerset
Ordinær pris 279,00 krThis new guide to the idyllic and popular county of somerset from expert author and somerset resident norm longley is ideal for both visitors and locals alike with its mix of visitor information, history, culture and anecdote, not to mention coverage of wildlife, birdwatching, walking, cycling and other outdoor activities. Accommodation and restaurants - and cider - are covered, too: As longley himself says, he often spends weekends 'roaming the somerset countryside in search of exciting and/or novel things to do - or at the very least, hunting down good food and drink.'divided into seven easy-to-explore geographical regions, from bath and north somerset through wells and the mendips to exmoor national park and international dark sky reserve, this is an indispensable companion for everyone from culture devotees to outdoor adventurers, birders to beach lovers, transport enthusiasts to event-goers, families to foodies. The somerset levels are covered, and so too are quantock and blackdown hills, the coast, and east and south somerset.
Somerset is consistently seductive: Windswept marshes and wild moorland, enchanting upland areas, iron-flat lowland terrain, limestone gorges, and a forty-mile long stretch of coast with rocky coves, fossil-filled cliffs and a tiny offshore island. And, of course, there's the unesco world heritage city of bath, with its beautifully preserved roman baths, graceful georgian architecture and enticing gastronomic possibilities. Bradt's somerset covers all this and more, from the glastonbury festival to the american museum and gardens, carnivals to quirky local customs, the longest heritage railway in britain to england's first designated area of outstanding natural beauty, and a good dash of legend and myth too, from king arthur at avalon and camelot, to the country's third largest complex of standing stones at stanton drew.

UK: South Devon & Dartmoor
Ordinær pris 269,00 krThis new, thoroughly updated third edition of South Devon and Dartmoor is part of Bradt's distinctive 'Slow Travel' series of guides to UK regions, offering in-depth exploration of one of England's most popular areas. Written by resident experts Hilary Bradt, the late Janice Booth, and Gill and Alistair Campbell, it remains the essential companion to discovering not just the obvious and well-known sites, but also for getting off the beaten track and understanding what makes this gorgeous part of the country tick. Much of the information in Bradt's South Devon and Dartmoor has appeared in no other guidebook (apart from previous editions of this book) as the authors uncover the lesser-known charms of the region, as well as different aspects of the more popular places (from the English Riviera and South Hams to Salcombe and Dartmoor), together with colourful characters from the past, folk history and literary links from Agatha Christie to Arthur Conan Doyle.
The guide has a special emphasis on car-free travel: walking (this edition features a revised selection of routes, including 'miles without stiles' - accessible Dartmoor walks), cycling and river boats, as well as local buses (including the new Dartmoor Explorer service) and trains. This edition has a stronger emphasis on local food (both in markets and when eating out), while the authors have updated their hand-picked suggestions for places to eat and drink, and for accommodation (from idyllically located campsites to boutique B&Bs, via caravans, treehouses and haunted coaching inns). Colourful and witty writing, along with the authors' enthusiasm for their subject, makes the guide a pleasure to read.
With Bradt's South Devon and Dartmoor, discover the region's award-winning gin distillery and new whisky distillery; learn what really goes on at a wassail gathering; find out what you should do if you're harassed by pixies on Dartmoor; and discover unique local events like the annual Orange Race held in Totnes. Also included are entertaining and informative stories about historical characters and folklore, while small and historic village churches, with their idiosyncratic saints and intriguing carvings, are described in loving detail.

UK: The Chilterns & Thames Valley
Ordinær pris 279,00 krThis new title from Bradt forms part of its distinctive 'Slow Travel' series and is the only title available to cover the Chilterns and Thames Valley in depth. The Chilterns and the Thames Valley do not correspond to the specific boundaries of one county or region, old or new. Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire all have a share.
Divided into six easily manageable sections, Bradt's The Chilterns and Thames Valley lifts the lid on what makes this area so distinctive. Chalk grasslands, beech woods, streams and wooded valleys provide a perfect landscape for walking and are easily accessible from London. About half of the area has been designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the closest such area to London.
Rare plants such as fleawort and numerous orchid varieties, and birds including red kites, lapwings and skylark flourish. The Thames Valley follows the route of one of the world's most famous rivers. You can find key sites of monarchical and parliamentary power such as Windsor Castle and Chequers, the location of Magna Carta's sealing at Runnymede and the birthplaces of men and women who have led dissent down the ages.

UK: The Cotswolds
Ordinær pris 279,00 krIn this new, thoroughly updated edition of Bradt's The Cotswolds (Slow Travel series), resident expert author Caroline Mills shares more of her favourite places in a region that remains as popular as ever. The area covered includes: the Cotswold AONB, the Cotswold escarpment, hills and valleys, the Wiltshire Cotswolds and the area known as the Four Shires, along with the lesser-known 'hidden' fringes of the Cotswolds. Also included are the three Cotswold 'gateways': Stratford-upon-Avon, Bath and Oxford.
Caroline Mills has lived and worked in the region for over 40 years and writes in an entertaining and engaging first-person narrative combined with authoritative information. Cotswold Farm Park, home of Countryfile presenter Adam Henson, is also included.
Featured within the guide are quirky events such as the Cheese-Rolling competition and Tetbury's Woolsack Races; numerous and distinguished breweries and micro-breweries, including the famous Hook Norton Brewery, Bath Ales, Uley Brewery and Stroud Brewery; Oxford University, the world's oldest, and the source of England's longest river, the Thames. The Cotswolds' rich and diverse man-made heritage includes many famous castles and country houses: Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle, Chavenage and Kelmscott; well-known abbeys such as Prinknash, Hailes; and gardens and estates including Painswick Rococo Garden, Westonbirt Arboretum and Highgrove. Roman history is covered, too, notably in Bath and Cirencester, together with the Fosse Way, one of the most important Roman roads in the country.
The Cotswolds continues to endear itself to anyone who visits - its harmonious combination of quintessentially English villages, charming provincial market towns, interesting and appealing countryside and a wealth of local food-and-drink producers makes it an all-year-round destination, whether for a day trip, a quiet weekend away or a multi-week holiday. The region offers an incredible array of accommodation from unique country-house hotels to delightful farmhouse B&Bs on working farms, luxurious self-catering cottages to glamping and camping in secluded countryside. Visitors that have a particular passion or interest for gardens, the Arts & Crafts Movement, historic buildings, walking, horseriding or rural pursuits are well provided for within the Cotswolds.

Alternatively, enjoy peace and quiet in the Brecon Beacons, one of few British International Dark Sky Reserves, characterised by high peaks, wild moorland and thrashing waterfalls.
From here, mountains extend east to the renowned book town of Hay-on-Wye. In South Wales, you can embrace history, landscape and culture in quick succession. Hikers come from all over to walk the Wales Coast Path, the first footpath worldwide to extend the entire length of a country's coastline.
Bike Park Wales in Merthyr is Britain's leading mountain-bike centre, while St David's Peninsula offers thrilling coasteering and the Gower Peninsula exciting surfing. The region's special wildlife ranges from puffins and deer on offshore islands to porpoises and dolphins powering across sheltered bays. Urbanites will love the Welsh capital of Cardiff, fast becoming one of Britain's most dynamic cities, following exciting regeneration crowned by the Millennium Centre.

United Arab Emirates & Abu Dhabi
We are pleased to release this brand new ITMB title. Abu Dhabi is one of the leading Emirates that are rapidly becoming vacation heavens for Europeans who don't want the long flights to Asian destinations. The city is so modern it almost squeaks. The palace is a world-class wonder, the seafront Corniche is a marvelous beach, and the central shopping area offers everything from hamburgers to Gucci bags. Motorways now connect the city state to nearby Dubai and to Oman, with a recently-completed one along the coastline to the Saudi border.
The reverse side of the map is an updated edition of the entire United Arab Emirates and most of Oman, with new motorways seemingly everywhere. A large inset map of central Dubai is included, along with a good one of Muscat. We docked at Abu Dhabi's cruise ship terminal during our visit and were impressed by the extent of urbanization of the city.

Fra ITM: Dubai is truly becoming a very popular travel destination and the loose federation of sheikdoms collectively known as the United Arab Emirates is growing in popularity with each passing year. Despite the turmoil affecting both Israel and Iran, this part of the Middle East is open for business and peaceful. Side 1 concentrates on the overall region from the eastern border of the UAE to its interaction with Oman. It also has an excellent inset map of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. Side 2 concentrates on Dubai itself as the largest urban area. Dubai has an extensive and interesting old town on the east bank of the Dubai Creek, which is where most of the hotels and the huge international airport are located. The ‘new town’ is on the left bank, and this is where one finds Western-style shopping areas, high-rise towers, the rapid transit line, and the main motorway out of town. The World Trade Center and Emirates Towers are also centrally located. The man-made Coastal Projects are shown in insets.
