Walking in Abruzzo
Ordinær pris 299,00 krThe essential guidebook for walking in Abruzzo, a wild and beautiful region of Italy which includes the Maiella and Gran Sasso national parks and Sirente-Velino regional park. 40 walks include the Val di Rose, the Prati di Tivo, and an ascent of Corno Grande, the highest point in the Apennines of peninsular Italy. Walks range from 4km to 25km and there are routes for all abilities.
Alongside detailed route descriptions and maps there is advice on where to stay, access and parking information to get you to the start, and a useful Italian-English glossary. Despite being close to Rome, Abruzzo is one of Italy's least known and populated regions - a spectacular and harmonious blend of snowy mountains, grassy plains and forested canyons; of hillside olive groves, vineyards and long sandy beaches. Its stunning natural environments are protected in three national parks, one regional park and many smaller reserves.
The Karnischer Höhenweg
Ordinær pris 259,00 krThis guidebook describes the Karnischer Höhenweg, a 170km long-distance walk through the beautiful Carnic Alps which straddle the border between Austria and Italy. Following a high Alpine trail along the main ridge, the route is clearly waymarked and requires a reasonable level of fitness, a sense of adventure and a head for heights, but no special equipment or technical expertise. It can be walked between mid-July and the end of September and takes up to a fortnight, though it is possible to devise shorter itineraries taking in the highlights.
The guide describes the full route of the Karnischer Höhenweg from Arnbach, near Sillian, to Arnoldstein, near Villach, and includes plenty of practical information to help you prepare for the walk. Each stage features comprehensive route description, clear mapping and fascinating insights into the history of the 'war in the mountains' plus other local points of interest. Accommodation listings and other useful contacts can be found in the appendices.
Also known as the Friedensweg ('Peace Trail'), the route follows the First World War front line, and reminders of the conflict are everywhere. But the trail isn't just rich in historical interest: this is Alpine ridge-walking at its best, boasting spectacular mountain vistas and views of the Dolomites, Hohe Tauern and Julian Alps. The guide covers two key variants of the trail, one on the Austrian side of the border, the other on the Italian side. Also included is an optional ascent of Monte Coglians, the highest peak in the Carnic Alps, and a visit to the open-air museum at the Plöckenpass.

Via Ferratas of the Italian Dolomites: Vol 2
Ordinær pris 309,00 krGuidebook to the via ferrata routes of the southern Italian Dolomites. This guide covers via ferrata routes in the major mountain ranges of Civetta, Schiara and Pala as well as those to the west in the Brenta. A significant addition (and, as far as we are aware, not previously published in any English language guidebook) is the inclusion of routes around the northern end of Lake Garda and the Piccole Dolomites north of Vicenza.
Here the mountains are generally lower and you can enjoy ferrata climbing over a much extended season, with some routes accessible for most of the year. This is the second in a series of two guidebooks to the via ferratas of the Italian Dolomites. (Volume One covers the eastern, northern and central areas of the Dolomites, while Volume Two completes the picture, focusing on the southern, Brenta and Lake Garda areas.)
Italy: Sicily & Italy South
Although this is a title that ITMB has marketed for several years, it should count as a brand new map in that the artwork is now our own and the map includes a second side focused on southern Italy. The Sicily side concentrates on the infrastructure and touristic sites of the island itself, along with the southern tip of the Italian mainland, showing ferry crossings. Sicily has a rich history, with Greek and well as Roman remains to explore and Mount Etna to visit if it isn't erupting. The Valley of the Temples, south of Agrigento, is particularly worth seeing. The second side concentrates on that portion of Italy from Pescara in the far north to Naples, the Amalfi Coast, to Potenza all the way to Brindisi and Taranto (the 'heel' of the boot). The 'toe' of the boot is on side 1. The focus of this map is on Sicily, but as most access to the island is via the mainland, we think combining the two meets most visitor's needs.
