France: French Atlantic Coast - Rail & Bike
Ordinær pris 179,00 krFrance is a rather large country, and while it can be portrayed on a map as a country, mapping it in segments provides an opportunity to concentrate on regions at a better scale. This map, covering the coastal region of France from the Cotenin Peninsula south to the Spanish border and east as far as Paris and Montpellier in Languedoc is the first of what we hope will be a series covering the country at an improved scale. This map is double-sided, covering from Quimper and Paris at the northernmost portion of coverage, to Angouleme and Clermont at the southern extreme on one side, with the second side covering from Bordeaux and St-Etienne south to Bayonne/Pamplona and Nimes/Avignon in the south. This is a part of Europe that has been fought over for centuries, and as such is dotted with fortresses proclaiming its historic importance.
This map has been designed with the leisure traveller in mind. Although it shows all motorways and highways, rail connections by train are emphasized, as are long-distance Euro-Velo cycling routes that are being developed in many parts of Europe. At this scale, it would be impractical to record all accommodations, but we have included a new feature that is thus far peculiar to France, and that is motorway hotels at rest areas. Naturally, the map is rich with places of touristic interest.
France: North Rail & Bike
Ordinær pris 199,00 krFrance: Railway & Road
Ordinær pris 169,00 krThis edition of France continues a developing strain of European country maps for ITMB – placing an emphasis on train travel. Tourism is changing, or rather, is growing exponentially as more and more people from Asia visit France. Most of these visitors, and for that matter, most visitors from North America, prefer to travel around France by using the excellent rail network, rather than by road. Most map publishers have removed rail lines from their maps in order to concentrate on those people travelling by car.
Our map shows the road network in good detail, but our difference is that we show the rail network in excellent detail as well. As a country, France is one of the most popular destinations in Europe, and for good reason. Whether one is interested in the chateaux gracing the Loire Valley or the great cathedrals of Chartres or Reims, or the massive defensive fortresses of bygone years, France offers something for everyone.
This is a traveller’s map, whether moving around by rail or by road, its plastic paper ensures it will not tear or crack, and can even be used as an umbrella if one is caught in a sudden rainstorm! We have also included anther feature common to ITM maps, a listing of the top ten attractions in the country – hard to do for France! The map includes dozens of noteworthy attractions, World Heritage sites, and scenic back roads for those wishing to avoid motorways.
France: South Rail & Bike
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThis is a brand new title for ITMB and an attempt to portray a changing travel landscape in a mapping format. Eco-tourism is a rapidly growing activity, with enormous potential. At the same time, governments are seeking to reduce carbon pollution by encouraging train travel, so ITMB is climbing aboard the movement by publishing a map encouraging train travel while still retaining the road network and noting all the long-distance bike routes in southern France by designated number.
This is, by its scale, a generalized map of that portion of France south of Poitiers or Lyon to the Mediterranean, so is more of a regional map showing biking opportunities than a detailed trail map. Nevertheless, it is an excellent map on waterproof paper showing cycling routes and tertiary roads that are suitable for recreational exploration. Naturally, motorways and main highways are shown as well. Legend Includes: Roads by classification, Rivers and Lakes, National Park, Airports, Points of Interests, Mining, Highways, Main Roads, Zoos, Fishing, , and much more...

Germany
Ordinær pris 199,00 krGermany is Europe's most populous country and is a very popular travel destination. It is also noteworthy for being the first country in the world to generate more than 50% of its energy needs from renewable sources, something we in North America should emulate. It also has Europe's most advanced rapid rail networks, which we emphasize on our map. Side 1 concentrates on the northern half of the country, from the Danish frontier south to the Ruhr region and Magdeburg, with side 2 covering the south. Small portions of adjoining countries also show. We have updated the motorway network, showing portions under construction where necessary. The main highway network is shown in great detail, as this is the best way to explore traditional Germany.
Major points of interest are shown, but the country is replete with castles, fortresses, manor houses, gardens, and other touristic attractions. We have used the German names for cities, which sometimes varies from commonly-known English nomenclature. This only affects a few urban areas, such as Koln for Cologne, or Munchen for Munich; 99.9% of German place names are the same in English and German. The map is printed on waterproof stone paper for durability.

Germany: Frankfurt & Central
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe historic city of Frankfurt started as a Roman city. The Romer (Roman, in English) central old town was the Roman encampment, and the current market square was the forum. We have been to Frankfurt many times, thanks to the annual book fair that is held there, and have long wanted to add the city to our range of European titles. Covid provided time to develop the artwork, and the map is now here. The reverse side is extremely important, covering central Germany in detail. This is also one of the most-travelled parts of Europe, so we have created a new map showing all the touristic destinations from the Rhine to Leipzig and from Gottingen south to Wurzburg. The map is printed on stone paper for both durability and resistance to water; a perfect umbrella in an emergency!
Germany: Schleswig-Holstein - Hamburg

Topography is shown with relief shading and some spot heights, and colour shading is used to indicate land types such as forests or marshland. International and provincial boundaries are clearly marked, as are National Parks, nature reserves and restricted military areas.
Symbols indicate various sights & locations of tourist interest, such as churches, leisure & sports destinations, panoramas & viewing points, monuments and historic sites. Sights of particular interest are circled. Some hotels and campsites are marked. Railway lines, airports, ports and marinas are also shown.

Ordinær pris 199,00 krGreat Britain: England East Coast
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe United Kingdom may be geographically small, but it is so packed with touristic sites that it needs to be broken down into logical units to be manageable. This is the first of several maps we will be publishing of England at 1:250,000 scale, covering Southeast England from Dover to Southampton north to Luton on Side 1 and from Colchester to Coventry north to Sheffield and Boston; essentially all of SE England from the Channel to Derbyshire and west to the Isle of Wight.
Even at this scale, there is only room to show major attractions without creating clutter. Both road and rail routes are clearly shown, with rapid-rail routes shown in red. This latter feature is not included on most other maps, an one notes with a bit of surprise that this part of England has more such routes than is generally believed to exist. We travelled on one of these trains during our recent visit to the UK (albeit from Newcastle to Edinburgh) and they are quite an improvement! Whether by train or by road, all options are shown. Whether one wishes to visit Hever Castle in Kent or Winchester cathedral, or the university cities of Cambridge or Oxford, this is an ideal map for exploring one of the most touristic corners of Europe.
Great Britain: Hadrians Wall & Northern England
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe Romans eventually subdued the fiercely independent Britons over time, from Julius Caesar's second invasion to the end of Roman rule in 410AD, but they never brought the extremely unruly Scots or the Welsh under their rule. In fact, raids from Scotland (known to the Romans as Caledonia) were so devastating that Emperor Hadrian ordered a wall built to keep them out. This massive wall stretches from the mouth of the River Esk, west of Carlisle, all the way across northern England to a point on the River Tyne somewhat to the east of modern-day Newcastle. The wall, like the Great Wall of China, was only moderately successful in keeping the Scottish Picts at bay and required a small army just to man the many watch towers and encampments. Nevertheless, it remained as a fortified border until the Roman legions abandoned Britain in 410.
Much of the wall was gradually demolished to create housing and fencing on both sides, but the foundations remain, as well as remnants of fortifications along the length of the wall. In today's United Kingdom, the wall is a long-distance hiking trail, a series of museums and memorials, a few temples that have been reconstructed, and some rebuilt portions of a remarkable construction that has survived the ravages of time. It is a 'must see' travel experience for everyone, a life-shaping experience for youngsters, and a massive tribute to the will of the Roman Empire. By the nature of a rectangular sheet of paper, the map shows much more than 'just' the wall, going as far south as Penrith and County Durham, and north into southern Scotland, showing all sorts of attractions that have nothing to do with the wall itself. In short, this is a marvellous travel map for all to enjoy.
Great Britain: Scotland - Central & South Rail & Road
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThis is another new ITMB title and extends our sectional coverage of the UK northwards from the southernmost border at Gretna Green through the densely-populated Glasgow/Edinburgh/Stirling conurbation to the highlands. The reason for this sectional map is to provide additional space to show 25% more detail than our map of all of Scotland can provide. The north of Scotland is my favourite part of the country, but there isn’t much there except heather and single-lane tracks across treeless moors. The South, like it or not, is where most of Scotland’s four million people live and where most of the castles, palaces, battlefields, parks, and touristic attractions are located.
The map also shows the ferry routes to the outer islands of Arran and Mull, and the most poignant battlefield I’ve ever visited, Culloden, east of Inverness. This was the spot where the clans were slaughtered in 1745, effectively ending the clan system and determining Scotland’s future as a junior partner to England. For history, Scotland is hard to beat, and this map shows the beauty and the majesty of this interesting homeland to excellent advantage. Rail lines have been emphasized.
