Great Britain: Hadrians Wall & Northern England
Ordinær pris 199,00 krThe Romans eventually subdued the fiercely independent Britons over time, from Julius Caesar's second invasion to the end of Roman rule in 410AD, but they never brought the extremely unruly Scots or the Welsh under their rule. In fact, raids from Scotland (known to the Romans as Caledonia) were so devastating that Emperor Hadrian ordered a wall built to keep them out. This massive wall stretches from the mouth of the River Esk, west of Carlisle, all the way across northern England to a point on the River Tyne somewhat to the east of modern-day Newcastle. The wall, like the Great Wall of China, was only moderately successful in keeping the Scottish Picts at bay and required a small army just to man the many watch towers and encampments. Nevertheless, it remained as a fortified border until the Roman legions abandoned Britain in 410.
Much of the wall was gradually demolished to create housing and fencing on both sides, but the foundations remain, as well as remnants of fortifications along the length of the wall. In today's United Kingdom, the wall is a long-distance hiking trail, a series of museums and memorials, a few temples that have been reconstructed, and some rebuilt portions of a remarkable construction that has survived the ravages of time. It is a 'must see' travel experience for everyone, a life-shaping experience for youngsters, and a massive tribute to the will of the Roman Empire. By the nature of a rectangular sheet of paper, the map shows much more than 'just' the wall, going as far south as Penrith and County Durham, and north into southern Scotland, showing all sorts of attractions that have nothing to do with the wall itself. In short, this is a marvellous travel map for all to enjoy.
Great Britain: London & Southeast
Ordinær pris 199,00 krITM har kart over hele verden og de spesialiserer seg på land litt utenfor allfarvei. Beliggenheten til landets nasjonalparker, historiske monumenter, de viktigste veiene o.L. Finner du inkludert i kartene. Samtlige landkart har ofte et bykart over hovedstaden.
Fra ITM: This 5th edition of our London map has undergone an extensive revision, adding more hotels, pubs, and attractions. While it is not practical to show all such buildings on a map, we are hoping to achieve a representative sample. The ‘tube’ or underground lines have also been re-drawn and emphasized. Rail lines are shown from their appropriate rail station outwards. There is one north-south rail line through London, and an east-west line under construction, but we are leaving these off our map until the second line is completed. Also, the overground lines are an increasingly important method of travel around London, and these have been shown where appropriate. The big change on this map, and the reason for its new ISBN, is the enhanced and expanded map on the second side of South East England at 1:300,000 scale. This would be ideal for day trips out of London or for those driving. The western edge of the map is Bath and the northern extreme is either Northampton or Cambridge. The main roads in and out of London are shown, with motorways in blue, A roads in green (un-widened A roads in magenta) and thousands of B roads wend their way to lovely villages and secondary towns. Both sides of the map include our Top Attractions list. The map is printed on high density plastic paper, both for durability and for inclement weather.

Great Britain: Scotland - Far North & Islands
Ordinær pris 199,00 krGreat Britain, by its shape, is difficult to map. The population is dense, the road network intense, and the coastline convoluted. A map of the British Isles shows only the major features. Sectional maps of just England, or Just Wales, make little sense, due to the geographic shape of the island kingdom. Scotland also needs more than one map to show its treasures in sufficient detail. ITMB previously issued Scotland Central and South, and now extends its coverage at 1:300,000 to the sparsely-populated highlands and the isolated Western, Orkney, and Shetland island archipelagos that are usually shrunk to Invergarry to John O'Graoats in the North, and from the Western islands of Uist and Lewis to the Moray Firth and Craigellachie in the east.
The second side has to duplicate part of the first side in order to extend the artwork further eastward to include Aberdeen and northward to include the wonderful island chains known collectively as the Shetlands and Orkneys. This map instills a sense of history, of adventure, and of being 'off the beaten path'. It is the Islands and Highlands part of Scorland where Gaelic is still commonly spoken and castles abound, where one can lose oneself traversing single-land roads across barren moors, or enjoy fishing villages such as Ullapool, or re-visit momentous events in history at Culloden. This is the heart of Scotland.
Greece
Ordinær pris 199,00 krGreece is one of the most important touristic destinations in the world. We have travelled the country extensively and have undertaken a serious upgrading of information for this edition. As a country, Greece divides naturally into three portions - the area around Athens and the Peloponnese, the far north region centred on Thessalonica, and the marvellous islands scattered around the southern portion of Greece.
This is an overall map, showing the latest road information and noting historic and cultural sites of interest to visitors, including world heritage sites. An inset map of Athens is included, but ITMB's map of the city would be useful for those exploring Athens in detail. We also published an expanded map of the Peloponnese, and another of Crete and Mykonos.
Greece: Crete; Mykonos & Santorini
Ordinær pris 169,00 krThe many islands off the coast of Greece can only be mapped properly a few at a time. Side 1 of this map shows the large island of Crete in good detail, with the relatively nearby island of Mykonos and its adjacent island of Rinia and the island of Santorini, with its adjacent islands of Thirasia and Nea Kameni being shown in great detail. A locality map showing the islands in relation to the rest of Greece is included as an inset. It is our intention to map more islands as time passes, but this depends upon future research trips (we lead a hard life!).
Side 2 of the map is a general map of Greece in relation to its neighbours to the north and east. The Mediterranean is divided into smaller seas, such as the Adriatic along the coast of Croatia, the Ionian to the west of Greece, the Myrtoan to its south and the Aegean to its east. All this area is replete with islands and geopolitical conflicts. As such, this map is useful for showing the region as an entity that links the Balkan states to the eastern Mediterranean.
Guadeloupe & Dominica

Fra ITM: The country of Guadeloupe (1:110.000) actually consists of six islands, with the main island being divided by a narrow peninsula into Basse-Terre and Grand-Terre. It is a French possession, so uses the Euro as its currency. The other touristic island is Marie-Galante, which one reaches by ferry from the capital city of Pointe-a-Pitre. The only airport is north of the capital, and touristic access is through it, or via the regular ferry from Dominica. Obviously, the lingua franca is French, and the towns have exotic-sounding names like Petites-Anses, Grand-Bourg, or Le Moule. Touristic resorts exist, but are scattered, unlike the complexes in Mexico. The road network is more basic, but reasonably comprehensive, and the significance of the country is that of a Caribbean European enclave combining the best of both continents. The other side of the map consists of a detailed map of Dominica (1:50.000), a popular cruise ship stop-over. The capital is Roseau, and an inset map is included. Beach resort enclaves exist south of the city, but what Dominica offers that varies from most other Caribbean islands is a well-developed network of inland resorts to explore the jungle-like mountainous parts of the island.

Guam & West Pacific Cruising
Ordinær pris 169,00 krWe are very pleased to be (finally) able to publish the first travel map of the island of Guam. Certainly, this is the only map of Guam by any major cartographic publishing house. Here are some details: Guam is a north-south island considerably north of New Guinea, and forms part of the American-held group of islands known as the Northern Marianas. Its capital is Hagatna, and the main town is called Tamuning. The island has a well-developed international airport in the middle portion of the island, with a large US military airbase in the northeast corner. The vast majority of the island is touristic, and well worth a visit. The island was "discovered" by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, and Hagatna is the oldest "European" city in the Pacific, dating from 1686. The town of Inarajan retains a decidedly Spanish appearance to this day. Other attractions include Tumon Beach and its many resorts, the Piti Underwater Observatory, and the famous Cocos Island dive wall.
This is a double-sided map, with the Western Pacific Cruising map gracing the second side of the page. This side covers several island entities, and stretches from Australia in the south to Japan in the north and as far to the east as Hawaii and the Cook Islands, so includes such popular cruise destinations as Fiji, Tonga, New Caledonia, the Solomons, Papua, Samoa, Kiribati, and the Marshall Islands. It makes a lovely wall map!

Fra ITM: The Indonesian island of Sumatra is not only the largest portion of this nation of islands, it is also very close to Singapore and Malaysia, so has easy connections to both countries as well as to other parts of Indonesia. Side 1 shows the northern portion of Sumatra, with an excellent inset map of Medan, its major city. Several offshore islands are included, as well as a significant Top Attractions list. Side 2 shows the bulk of the island as well as a portion of southern Malaysia, Singapore, and various islands in the vicinity. Ferry routes to Java, Malacca (part of Malaysia), the Lingga and Riau Archipelagoes and Singapore are included, as well as inset maps of Padang and Palembang, the two major cities in the south. Sumatra has a well-developed road network along its western side, but not along its eastern portion, except in the far north. Thus, the island remains a place for adventure travel waiting to be discovered.

Israel & Palestine

Fra ITM: The great religions of Christianity and Muslimism regard not only Jerusalem but the entire area of Palestine as holy land. Although the title is Israel and Palestine, in an attempt to satisfy political sensitivities, one side of the cover is labelled Israel in both English and Hebrew, and the other side contains a different cover picture and the title Palestine in English and in Arabic. The map itself portrays both cultural entities that make up the overall region. It is impossible to map Israel without including the Palestinian controlled portions and vice versa. We have included a purple dashed line to indicate the borders currently in place between the two areas of Israel proper and the Palestinian West Bank and the Gaza Strip. These are real, if unaccepted borders, and are subject to change, particularly at the moment, when the Israeli government is so evernly divided, so are shown only for generalized information. As map makers, it is our duty to show things as they are, not as some would prefer them to be. That said, the country is well worth a visit. We rented a car and spent ten days exploring Israel from top to bottom. It is a lovely part of the world, full of friendly and hospitable people and deserves our friendship to all its people and an understanding of their reality. The maps includes an inset map of Jerusalem and a regional map of the surrounding area, but one would be advised to use the ITMB map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land for a better coverage of this historic city.

Fra ITM: The mountainous northern portion of Italy is one of todays touristic highlights. This is a new title for ITMB and one that required considerable research to accomplish. It not only shows the roads and rail lines in the region, but hotels, castles/fortresses, museums, and a significant number of footpaths. This is the first new map of this important region, covering from Trento in the south to Sterzing-Vipiteno in the north. It also has a Top Attractions list to assist users. The reverse side is a more general map of northeastern Italy from the Slovenian border west to Brescia and from the Swiss border south to Siena, for the assistance of end users. This side has its own Top Attractions list and an outline of the area covered in better detail that is on the other side of the sheet.
Italy: Florence & Italy Northeast
Ordinær pris 199,00 krFlorence, or Firenze in Italian, is one of the most fascinating cities on earth. It is a treasure trove of museums, statues, plazas, narrow streets, and expensive stores. Lan and I spent a week here last December, representing Canada at an international convention. We had our artwork ready to go to press, but we wanted one last opportunity to check our data. It proved to be a wise decision. We found many changes that were unrecorded-hotels out of existence, restaurants either closed down or open with new names, many churches closed, and others converted to other uses, two tram lines not shown on other maps, and lots of disruption caused by the advent of Omicron, which seems like it has been here forever instead of just a few months.
The Florence side covers from the fortress north of the main railway station to south of the Bobolini Park and from the Hippodrome east to the Asics Firenze Sports complex, and all at an easy-to-use 1:5,000 scale on waterproof paper. The rapid transit lines, which extend to the airport and the regional bus lines off the map, are clearly shown. Dozens upon dozens of hotels, restaurants, churches, plazas, statures, and important buildings are noted, as well as quite a few grocery stores, bars, electric bike recharging stations, bus stops, museums, theatres, bike routes, and libraries.
This map was exhaustive to research! The reverse side is a map of much of central Italy. We call it the Northeast because it starts in Trieste and follows the northern border to Milan, then goes down to Genoa and on to Pisa, Siena, Perugia, and Viterbo. Motorways are shown in purple, with main roads in red. Top attractions are noted. Thus, one can enjoy Florence and take day trips using the same convenient map!
Italy: Railway & Road
Although this is a title that ITMB has marketed for several years, it should count as a brand new map in that the artwork is now our own and the map includes a second side focused on southern Italy. The Sicily side concentrates on the infrastructure and touristic sites of the island itself, along with the southern tip of the Italian mainland, showing ferry crossings. Sicily has a rich history, with Greek and well as Roman remains to explore and Mount Etna to visit if it isn't erupting. The Valley of the Temples, south of Agrigento, is particularly worth seeing. The second side concentrates on that portion of Italy from Pescara in the far north to Naples, the Amalfi Coast, to Potenza all the way to Brindisi and Taranto (the 'heel' of the boot). The 'toe' of the boot is on side 1. The focus of this map is on Sicily, but as most access to the island is via the mainland, we think combining the two meets most visitor's needs.
