Fra ITM: Both Senegal and neighbouring Gambia would not exist, except for colonialism Dakar is one of the great harbours of the world, and dominated French West Africa until the 1960s. Gambia was created by literally bombing the countryside surrounding the Gambia River, with the British claiming all the land that fell within range as British territory, which is why Gambia has such and unusual shape. Both areas were heavily-invested in the slave trade, with Ile de Goree now being a museum to man’s inhumanity to man. The map is double-sided, with western Senegal/Gambia on one side and the eastern portions of both countries on the reverse side.
