Fra ITM: We spent a week in Bulgaria in 2019, driving the roads, staying in towns around the country, and visiting attractions. The result of all this effort was to update our data for a new map of Bulgaria. This is a country that has been transformed by its entry into the European Union. Touristically, the country has benefitted by new investments in resort accommodations and by improvements to touristic attractions. The country is quite affordable to visit, the people are friendly, the weather is pleasant, the roads are generally very good, and accommodations are equal to other parts of Europe. We have changed the name somewhat to place an emphasis on rail travel. In concert with changing travel patterns, Bulgaria is renovating its passenger rail service, so we have included all lines carrying passengers. We have also updated the motorway network of the country. We have added a Top Attractions list to the artwork, and have updated the large inset map of Sofia. Provincial boundaries have not been included, as these are mostly local administrations, but the names have been included, as they are commonly used within the country.

BC is one of our best-selling titles. This particular version does have one major new highway improvement to record, however. After years of construction, the TC (Trans-Canada Highway) from the Alberta border to Golden has been upgraded to full motorway standard as of this June. This is the most expensive highway project in the province's history and a welcome relief to truckers, caravanners, and the general public. Engineers overcame tremendous obstacles to smooth curves and alleviate gradients in high mountainous terrain. The new stretch of road shows on our map.

Fra ITM: Bangladesh at 1:750,000 on an indexed map from ITM, with street plans of central Dhaka and Chittagong, plus on the reverse a road map of north-eastern India with a street plan of Kolkata plus an enlargement of the city’s environs.

On one side is an indexed map of Bangladesh at 1:750,000. Distances are shown on main roads and railway lines are included. The map also shows administrative borders with names of the provinces. Town names are annotated with icons indicating that facilities and/or places of interest can be found there. The map also highlights various other interesting sites. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 30’ intervals. The map is accompanied by street plans of central Dhaka and Chittagong, highlighting various facilities and places of interest, plus notes about the country, etc.

On the reverse is an indexed road map of North-Eastern India and eastern Nepal at 1:1,500,000, extending in India south-west to Sambalpur and Bhubaneshwar and within Nepal west to Pokhara. Please note that coverage of Bangladesh on that side of the map is incomplete, with the central part of the country blocked by the index. The map shows the regions road and rail connections, local airports, state boundaries, and various places of interest. Topography is indicated by altitude colouring in feet, although peak heights are given in metres. Latitude and longitude lines are drawn at 1°intervals. An enlargement shows the environs of Kolkata (Calcutta) in greater detail, and also included is a street plan of central Kolkata highlighting important buildings, various facilities, etc.

The map shows the country’s road and rail networks, including numerous seasonal tracks. Intermediate distances are marked on main routes and locations of petrol stations are indicated. National parks are prominently marked and symbols highlight various places of interest, including selected hotels and campsites.

The map has latitude and longitude grid at intervals of 1º and an index of localities. Also included is a large, clear street plan of central Luanda.

The Atlantic coast of Canada is blessed with some of the earliest European settlement areas in North America. There are three Canadian provinces that have been traditionally called "maritime" - New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Newfoundland only became part of Canada in 1949, a century after the term Maritimes had become common usage, so is part of Atlantic Canada, but not the Maritime provinces. This double-sided regional map is great for those visiting all three provinces (ITMB also publishes separate maps of each province).

All the roads and towns are shown, as well as parks, camping areas, touristic attractions, and historic sites. The area is rich in history. Last summer, Lan and I took our two grandchildren on a month-long drive across Canada and visited Louisbourg, on Cape Breton, the French fortress that dominated French control of Quebec for many years. We also toured Green Gables, the actual farm made famous by L. M. Montgomery and her fictional Anne Shirley. Roosevelt's beloved estate is on Campobello Island, in New Brunswick. This is one of the most popular regions of North America to visit.

Norway is one of the more interesting countries in Europe for travellers, in that it has wide open spaces and unusual Arctic scenery, particularly in the north. Because it is a rather long and narrow country, trying to portray it adequately on a single sheet results in a lack of scale adequate for showing touristic attractions. This map covers the northern portion of the country, from Trondheim to Nordkapp and from the North Atlantic to the Russian border. It also shows a portion of northern Sweden and a bit of Finland and Russia, but its focus is on roads, rail connections, airports, distance markers, parks, and touristic attractions in the region. Most noticeably, the rail lines leading to Trondheim and north to Bodo are clearly shown. Communities, sometimes fairly small, are included, as are ferries to outlying islands close to the coast.

The reverse side shows the rail line to Narvik coming in from Sweden, and all roads and towns north to the Arctic Ocean and east to the Russian border. Border crossing to Sweden/Finland are not shown, as both countries are part of the EU, but crossings to Russia are shown, albeit closed at the moment.

Fra ITM: To North Americans, there is only one “Great Lakes” – the waterway stretching far into the interior of the continent from the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the tip of Lake Superior. This vast region has exerted a fundamental hold on the development of both the USA and Canada; first as a canoeing trade route for trapping furs, then as a means of settlement, and now as a water route to move products to world markets. The region is also densely populated with well-known touristic cities and attractions, and houses in excess of 100,000,000 people. Surprisingly, until now, there has never been a map for this interesting and historic part of the continent. Using this map, one can explore Lakes Ontario and Erie as circular routes; also Huron and Superior; visit Ottawa and Toronto, Chicago and Duluth, and find Fort William or the Wawa Goose. This is a double-sided map covering from Ottawa in the north to Pittsburgh and Columbus in the south and Duluth and Thunder Bay in the west. Both Canada and the USA portions of the Great Lakes Region are included.

Fra ITM: 2nd Edition The Rockies are North America's recreational back yard. Extending from Alaska to Mexico, the Rockies are one of the more recent mountain chains, having been formed about 30,000 years ago by tectonic plate movement. Previously, this title concentrated only on the Canadian portion of the Rocky Mountain region; with this edition, we have expend the coverage to cover the portion between where the mountain chain first becomes prominent in Canada's Yukon, down through Jasper and Banff national parks, and on into Idaho, Wyoming, utah, and Colorado. The chain extends southward through New mexico into Mexico and Central America, but we ended coverage Taos to show the bulk of this vast range of mountains. Inset maps of downtown Calgary, Vancouver, and Denver are included. Sorry, the simply wasn't room for more. A lovely map!

Fra ITM: Burkina Faso and Niger on a double-sided, indexed map from ITMB, presenting each country separately at 1:1,000,000 1:1,950,000 respectively and accompanied by street plans of Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso and Niamey. Altitude colouring shows the topography (with bands in feet in Burkina Faso and in metres in Niger). In Burkina Faso the map indicates areas of periodic inundation, whilst in Niger numerous water wells, salt pans, sand dunes and lava fields are also marked. In both countries parks and nature reserves are highlighted.

Road network indicates seasonal roads and shows locations of fuel supplies and border crossings, plus distances on main routes. Airports and aerodromes for small craft are marked; towns are annotated with symbols indicating what facilities can be found there. Each map has latitude and longitude lines (at 1° in Burkina Faso and 2° in Niger), plus a separate index.

Street plans, annotated with names of hotels, various tourist facilities and main buildings cover Ouagadougou (with an enlargement for the town cente), Bobo-Dioulasso and Niamey.

This is a new map for us, combining both the Canadian and the American portions of the Pacific coastline north from the Seattle area to the Alaska Panhandle, ending at the Glacier Bay National Park, which extends considerably north of the Bay itself. Side one concentrates on the Canadian portion, from Victoria north to the Queen Charlotte/Haida Gwaii islands, showing ferry routes and the routes most favoured by cruise ships. As a coastal map, it doesnt go very far inland, but shows the Coastal mountain range to good advantage.

Side two provides a very detailed map of that portion of Alaska known as the Panhandle a series of islands north and west of Canada that is very popular with cruisers. All parks and cruise line routes are shown. Interestingly, at the top end of Glacier Bay, the Canadian border splits the Panhandle from the rest of Alaska; not intentionally, but when the border was agreed upon in the early 1900s, no one realized that the glacier on that site might one day melt. Well, melt it has, leaving a kilometre-long stretch of beach that is part of Canada! Regardless, this map completes ITMB mapping of the Pacific coastline of North America rom the Bering Sea to Panama, a cartographic task that began decades ago.

Zambia, a nice country in central/southern Africa graces one side of the sheet, along with a very large inset map of Lusaka and two others of Livingstone and Victoria Falls (which is actually in Zimbabwe). The other side of the sheet contains a very useful regional map of eastern Africa from Ethiopia/Eritrea south to Eswatini/Swaziland. Madagascar is also included, as well as the Comoro Islands. While both sides are useful, it is the Zambian side that takes precedence. All the roads and towns are shown, as well as parks, safari lodges, and points of interest. It is possible, though not advisable, to travel to Zimbabwe via either Kariba or Vic Falls, and there is a good crossing into Botswana at Sesheke. Entry to and from Tanzania and Malawi is easy.
