As far as mountains go, Mont Blanc in France and Italy, forming the border between the two countries, with Switzerland nearby, is the best known and most attractive mountain in the Alps. The peak itself is far too challenging for most climbers to attempt, but the region is dotted with ski lifts, hiking trails in the lower regions, and fascinating scenic villages. Mont Blanc tops out at 4,807.81 metres and is protected by Monte Bianco National Park in Italy. There is a long tunnel underneath the mountain joining France (near Chamonix) and Italy (near Courmayeur) and a beautiful highway along its western side (the D1506) and in Italy along its south side (SS26).

There is also a Grande Route long-distance hiking trail that surrounds the mountain. We show it in its entirety, including numerous overnight stopping areas, either in towns or in mountain refuges. Naturally, skiing is a huge draw, and we include several ski lifts, all rail lines in the region, including the fabulous cog line from Chamonix to the Grotte de Glace. The Grande Route trail also passes through Switzerland, and we note numerous places to stay in Champex-Lac and La Fouly.

The map also includes La Thuile, in Italy, with its many hotels, and touches the nearby French resort town of Sixt-Fer-a-Cheval, a name that should entice anyone to go and visit. The second side of the map is just as interesting, covering the Alps from Geneva to Zagreb, providing drivers with comprehensive coverage of all highways and secondary routes. Rail routes are also emphasized. Given its grandiose scale, touristic points are limited to the most important, but numerous camping sites are noted, as well as all towns and border crossings, notably with Switzerland. The map has two covers, one favouring Mont Blanc and one oriented to the Alps themselves, providing opportunities to market this interesting title to two markets.

This is actually two brand new maps in one. This is a brilliant new map of the Seychelles archipelago and a first-ever map of the entire Indian Ocean. The islands of the Seychelles are too widely-spaced to portray except by as a series of ten insets. The main island is Mahe, which also houses the capital of Victoria (inset provided) and numerous resorts. Many of the islands have French names, reflecting the colonial to-and-fro that typified relations between Britain and France. Praslin, Curiuse, Falicite, La Digue, and Desroches are not names that bring immediate recognition, but they are the names of islands belonging to the Seychelles.

The map shows dozens of resorts, as well as restaurants, touristic sites, historic sites, ferry docks, parks, and shopping areas. The reverse side covers the Indian Ocean as a marine map, with underwater ridges portrayed and countries portrayed politically in differing colours. The ocean nations of Comoros, Reunion, BIOT, Maldives, and Andaman/Nicobar Islands are likely only to be mapped in this context. It is an interesting map.

We had previously issued a map of Italy North at this same scale to provide more detail than is possible on the country map. This map continues the process of showing Italy to advantage. Side one covers from Umbria Province north of Rome to below Naples and east to the Adriatic between Ancona and Brindisi. An inset map of Sardinia is also included. The second side covers the 'toe' of Italy, the island of Sicily, and several small islands in the Mediterranean. Italy is densely populated and has a complicated road/rail system.

This map expands the southern half of the country into a comprehensive whole, showing motorways in blue, mian roads in green, World Heritage sites, castles, and major churches. Italy is rich in history and marvelous attractions and is the type of country where one wanders, rather than travels, in exploration. ITMB also publishes a more detailed map of Sicily as a separate title, and hopes to publish one of Sardinia later this year. We also publish an excellent city map of Rome. Earlier in 2020, we spent a week in the Naples/Pompei/Amalfi area. There was so much to see that we never got south of Potenza.

The northern half of France is fairly flat, making it an ideal area for biking. However, it is also a rather large area, covering several provinces of France, so we have combine rail access with biking. All the motorways and main highways are also shown, so this map is ideal for someone wanting to drive to, say , Brittany, and bike during their stay in the Breton peninsula. Side 1 covers Normandy, Brittany, the Loire, and the Poitou region west of Paris. Side 2 covers all of northern France from Calais to Strasbourg and south to Lyon.
