Although this is a title that ITMB has marketed for several years, it should count as a brand new map in that the artwork is now our own and the map includes a second side focused on southern Italy. The Sicily side concentrates on the infrastructure and touristic sites of the island itself, along with the southern tip of the Italian mainland, showing ferry crossings. Sicily has a rich history, with Greek and well as Roman remains to explore and Mount Etna to visit if it isn't erupting. The Valley of the Temples, south of Agrigento, is particularly worth seeing. The second side concentrates on that portion of Italy from Pescara in the far north to Naples, the Amalfi Coast, to Potenza all the way to Brindisi and Taranto (the 'heel' of the boot). The 'toe' of the boot is on side 1. The focus of this map is on Sicily, but as most access to the island is via the mainland, we think combining the two meets most visitor's needs.

Fra ITM: This map was called Cayman Islands and Jamaica in its previous edition, which was a well-intentioned attempt to promote the smaller islands adjacent to big brother. Now, we are reverting to what we think is a more logical title arrangement for listing purposes, but the map has two covers, so one can market it as either Jamaica or the Caymans, or best of all, market both! We visited the Caymans a few months ago and drove every road on the main island, including a few that turned out to be driveways! The map is very current as a result. The other side of the map is the very popular touristic island of Jamaica, now into its sixth edition. This island is large enough to justify renting a car and exploring. Japan is a very interesting country to visit. It divides naturally into northern, central, and western regions. This map concentrates on the far north island of Hokkaido, which is very different than the rest of Japan, and includes a detailed inset map of central Sapporo, its main city. The best way to tour the island is by train, and Hokkaido is now joined to the main island of Honshu by a very long undersea rail tunnel.

The second side of the map is equally important, covering the main island of Honshu from Tokyo north to its northern tip and the northern coast from Toyama to Aomori. The best way to travel around Japan is by using a rail pass. Shinkansen trains are high-speed and great for travelling distances, but local trains are more fun and get you to destinations not covered by the faster trains, such as the north coast.

Tokyo is one of the most populous cities in the world, so it is very difficult to capture all of it on one map sheet. The areas of touristic interest tend to exist in a relatively small portion of the metropolis, essentially from the Shibuya and Shinjuku shopping areas in the west to the Asakusa temple complex in the east. All the subway lines are shown, as well as stations. The rail lines passing through the city are numerous, but well-portrayed, including the monorail going to Haneda Airport and the main Shinkensen Terminal. The imperial palace is prominently shown, although not open for tourists. Tokyo tends to be a bit overwhelming, so having a good map is essential.

This map includes an inset of the Narita International Airport and train routes into Tokyo, as well as a large inset showing the spaghetti-like network of subway/rail lines serving Tokyo. The reverse side of the sheet is essentially a detailed map of central Japan as far west as Nagoya and north to Yamagata, offering visitors to Tokyo with a wealth of day trips to interesting cities and nearby islands without needing a separate map. The Top Attractions list notes such treasures as Odawara Castle, or the shrine complex at Nikko. Mount Fuji is of course included, as is the spot where Westerners first arrived (near Shimoda). A fascinating map!

Fra ITM: Just at the moment, the entire Middle East region is politically unstable, but Jordan remains steady and attractive for tourism. Syria is a very interesting country, and well-worth visiting. This map shows each country on opposite sides of the sheet, with a double-sided cover showing two of the most important touristic attractions in each country. The Jordan side includes a detailed map of Amman, the capital and a list of top attractions. By the shape of the country, Israel is also shown, as well as southern Lebanon and Syria. The second side provides a detailed map of Syria, which is mostly desert-like. The map includes an excellent map of Damascus. Most of the touristic attractions are close to the Lebanese border.
