Om natten er alt blod svart av den fransk-senegalesiske forfatteren David Diop har i tillegg vunnet Prix Goncourt des lycéens i Frankrike, Strega-prisen i Italia for beste oversatte roman, og blitt nominert til Den europeiske litteraturprisen i Nederland. En morgen blåser kaptein Armand til angrep mot den tyske fienden. Soldatene stormer frem. Blant dem er Alfa Ndiaye og Mademba Diop, to infanterister fra Senegal som kjemper under fransk flagg.
